There a few different ELA standards I feel I'd be successful at teaching in a classroom. The one I'm most comfortable with is "SL.5 "Use Digital Media"". This standard spans from grades 2 to 12. It focuses on using digital media and visual displays of data to express information. This is important because it you won't be using the same kind of technology throughout the grades. It sets the standard on what technology should be used in the classroom based on grade level.
One of the resources I looked at in the CPALMS Educator Toolkit was a lesson plan for science. It is an interactive lesson plan which I really like because the students can actively participate rather than be talked at for an hour. The video stops and starts occasionally to give the students time to discuss or practice what they just watched and learned. I like this kind of tool because it not only helps students to learn, but helps teachers teach the students something new in a fun and exciting way!
I had quite a bit of fun completing the newsletter assignment. I've used word most of my life and thought I was a pro. I thought I'd breeze through this assignment, but I found myself staring at the computer trying to make it as perfect as possible as if it was actually going to be sent out to parents. This is a very important skill to know because newsletters are a constant throughout the school year to keep parents in the know on what is occurring in the classroom and at the school when they are not around.
