As I enter my 17th year as a student, Microsoft Word has been present for almost all of them. It is such a simple tool that is accessible for both students and teachers. As a student, I've used it in a variety of ways, typing up a term paper or creating a study guide to print out. It's so easy. I don't think I've met or had a single teacher who doesn't utilize MS word. It's basically an essential for teachers for creating things such as their semester syllabus or designing a newsletter to send home to their students.
Topics such as plagiarism, copyright, and fair use of materials needs to be drilled into students heads. I was constantly aware of them as I was a student. They are so important to know. As a teacher, I would make sure each of my students knows the rules and understands each concept. I would make sure they know the difference between straight plagiarism when they're creating their own work and fair use because sometimes it can be confusing.
Two technology implementation issues that I think are the biggest are cyberbullying and academic dishonesty. These issues are constantly present in classrooms thats use technology. To combat academic dishonesty, I would use websites such as Turn It In, which checks for a certain amount of plagiarism in students papers, to insure that the work they are turning in is their own. To combat cyberbullying, I would make my students aware of the potential effects. Cyberbullying is so terrible and has caused some students to kill themselves, which is so easily avoidable, if students know that their anonymous words online do have consequences.
